Fans of Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas will have plenty to celebrate in the new year. A new, ongoing comic series will be available later this month, delivering exciting new stories in Burton's world.

Dynamite Entertainment revealed new details about Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Shiver of Christmas Town, their first-ever ongoing comic book series set in the world of Burton's beloved film. Written by Torunn Gronbekk (Red Sonja, Catwoman, Thor) and illustrated by Edu Menna, the ongoing series returns to the world of both Halloween Town and Christmas Town and promises to leave readers "in stitches.

The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Shiver of Christmas Town #1

"It all begins with the unveiling of Dr. Finkelstein's newest creation, specially designed to be the scariest creature ever to celebrate All Hallow's Eve," Dynamite's solicit teases. "But something has gone awry in the process, and the final result is more cute and cuddly than fearsome and menacing. The disappointed scientist hands the newcomer over to Sally for safekeeping, who dubs it Shiver for its freezing breath."

Other fan-favorite The Nightmare Before Christmas characters will also be appearing in the story. "Meanwhile, the Mayor has tasked Lock, Shock, and Barrel with teaching the residents of Christmas Town how to trick-or-treat, as the two realms have embarked on a new campaign to share their holiday traditions."

The action-packed first episode will also see some intense action, involving the hilarious Dr. Finklestein's lab and Shiver. "With Christmas Town celebrating Halloween for the first time ever, the trio are taking their assignment seriously — perhaps a bit too seriously! In an effort to make their pranks extra lifelike and terrifying, they decide to "borrow" some ingredients from Dr. Finkelstein's lab — and end up with much more than they bargained for in the form of the deceptively adorable Shiver!"

To celebrate the first issue of the series, Dynamite revealed a series of special variant covers from artists Jae Lee and June Chung, Soo Lee and Alan Quah. An exact release date for the first issue was not revealed at this time, but it's expected to hit comic book shops in January.

The Nightmare Before Christmas Remains a Halloween & Holiday Classic

The new Nightmare Before Christmas comics come over 30 years after the release of the original stop-motion film, which was directed by Henry Selick (Coraline) and written by Caroline Thompson (Edward Scissorhands). The story, which follows Halloween Town's Jack Skellington as he stumbles into Christmas Town and falls in love with the holiday, has become an undeniable classic for those who love to celebrate both holidays.

While Dynamite's release may mark their first ongoing story set in the world, other books set in the world have already been released. This includes two manga adaptations from Tokyopop, which even secured Tim Burton's approval for the story. Comics and books are likely to be fans' only way to see more of Burton's classic land, however, both he and Selick have revealed a sequel film is unlikely, with Burton going as far as to say he did not want to see "any further projects" in the universe back in 2023.
