Christopher Nolan’s next film, The Odyssey, is shaping up to be one of 2026’s biggest movie events. Starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson, the film adapts Homer’s ancient tale into a massive cinematic spectacle that some insiders are already calling a modern classic.
In a recent interview, Holland praised Nolan’s direction and called the project a “masterpiece.” The actor said he was stunned by what the director managed to capture without digital effects. “There were certain sequences in the movie where I’m watching it and thinking, ‘That has to be CG.’ Then I asked Nolan, and he said, ‘No, it’s all in-camera.’ Very planned, very prepared.” Holland added that The Odyssey is “one of my proudest achievements as an actor.”

The movie follows Odysseus, played by Damon, as he battles his way home to Ithaca. Holland stars as Telemachus, the son who struggles to keep his family together while his mother Penelope, played by Hathaway, fights off suitors led by Pattinson’s Antinous. Sources close to production say emotional stakes run high and practical filmmaking gives the story a grounded realism rarely seen in today’s blockbusters.
After his early breakout in The Impossible and his decade as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Holland’s move into Nolan’s mythic drama signals his most ambitious career leap yet. Matt Damon has also praised the production, noting that Nolan’s approach to classical themes might be redefining the epic genre for a modern audience.

Holland’s big year doesn’t end with The Odyssey. Just two weeks after Nolan’s film hits theaters on July 17, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31. The back-to-back releases could make Holland the undisputed face of summer 2026, with box office analysts already predicting record-breaking numbers for both projects. As the industry continues to bet big on familiar franchises, Nolan’s bold attempt to revive a literary classic could prove that old stories, told with innovation, still matter.
