This series was basically a “check in” for members of the Young Avengers, who will get their own book again as a Secret Invasion tie-in. So this is essentially lead-in. Interesting that Ed Brubaker gets the write the new one, which focuses on the team’s “legacy Captain America.”

Eli gets suspended from school after he presents a report on the Tuskegee Airmen experiments, a classmate calls him anti-American, and he hits the kid.
When he arrives home, he thinks he sees Bucky Barnes driving away–but his grandfather, the first black Captain America, denies having been visited.

With Kate Bishop, Eli tracks down Winter Soldier, who is in the middle of a big fight.

After, they have a heart-to-heart about what it means to be a patriotic hero.
The writing is fine, albeit a little rushed. The art is workmanlike. Both creators are capable of much better than this. Still, it serves the function of a one-shot designed to orient people to the character.
