Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.
Few superheroes have ever looked better while fighting crime than Batman and his most trusted ally, Robin. However, the Dynamic Duo has just received the fashion upgrade the world never knew they needed for their debut in a popular new DC comic.
Batman and Robin are set to appear in Superman: Father of Tomorrow #4, each bearing a striking new costume redesign.
A variant cover for the upcoming issue by artist Gabriel Hardman shows this new interpretation of Gotham City's protectors wearing costumes that feature masks that cover their faces entirely. This is an unusual element to the duo's outfits, as Batman's cowl traditionally leaves the bottom half of his face visible and Robin typically wears a mask that only wraps around his eyes.
Image via DCEven more unique to previous iterations is the fact that both superheroes bear dark colors, which is typically a staple of Bruce Wayne's alter ego. Meanwhile, Robin, especially in the early days following his debut in 1940, was defined by a color scheme that greatly contrasts with his mentor and often consists of a bright mix of red, green, and yellow. For this new Boy Wonder, the colors have been replaced with much darker shades.
The main cover art for Superman: Father of Tomorrow #4 takes a closer look at Batman's outfit, which, with the cowl's covered lower half and the red chest emblem, looks like a fresh take on Terry McGuinness' costume from Batman Beyond. Yet, certain features, like the supposedly armored sleeves, indicate a more futuristic approach to the design, which could also have something to do with the Caped Crusader's ally in this story.
Batman And Robin Team With Superman's Dad In Father Of Tomorrow
Image via DCThe six-issue limited series Superman: Father of Tomorrow is an Elseworlds story imagining that Kal-El, who would come to be known as Clark Kent after crash-landing on Earth as an infant, is not the sole survivor of Krypton's destruction. Instead, it is his father, Jor-El, who finds friends in Jonathan and Martha Kent when he arrives in Smallville, Kansas.
Jonathan's death motivates Jor-El, then going by Jordan Kent, to reveal his true nature as an extraterrestrial to the world and become its guardian from corruption and evil, and provider of otherworldly technology that helps improve society. It might be safe to say that Bruce Wayne has taken advantage of these highly advanced tools for the benefit of his war against crime.
Yet, it appears that Batman will be the one called upon by Jor-El for help in Superman: Father of Tomorrow #4, based on the issue's official synopsis, which also teases continuing conflict with one of the Kryptonian's greatest Earthly enemies.
JOR-EL MEETS BATMAN AND ROBIN! Superman is struggling with how to help humanity reach their potential, so he looks for help from a friend in Gotham City. Enter: Batman and Robin! But Jor-El might have his hands full in Metropolis when General Sam Lane brings his WildC.A.T.S. to the city to face down the Man of Steel!
Superman: Father of Tomorrow is written by Kenny Porter, who is certainly no stranger to the Man of Steel, having penned a few mainline Superman stories, as well as the 2024 miniseries Superboy: The Man of Tomorrow, which spotlights Kal-El clone Connor Kent. The series is illustrated by Danny Earls, who is also known for penciling Phillip Kennedy Johnson's recent The Incredible Hulk run and designing covers for Dynamite Entertainment's current ThunderCats X SilverHawks crossover event, Mumm-Ra the Ever-Living. The colorist is Nick Filardi of Dark Horse's Powers 25 fame.
Superman: Father of Tomorrow #4 hits the shelves on Aug. 26.
