Land of Never revolves around Jim Hoke's search for answers regarding the abduction of his daughter, Wendy, who was stolen away by a mysterious, seemingly inhuman serial killer. Facing an endless number of people who don't believe him and a former police career tarnished by planted evidence, Jim is left with no one to turn to for help, at least not until he discovers he isn't alone in this particular waking nightmare.
As noted by the official solicit synopsis for Land of Never #1 from Mad Cave Studios, "With Wendy's disappearance declared the coldest of cases, Jim believes he’s the only one who cares about finding his daughter. And he's got a withered Father's Day card in his pocket to remind him—all he can do is his best. So he better step it up. Jim goes into business for himself, tracking leads and harassing anyone who’s polite enough to listen to his story."
The official solicit text continues, "He dives into rabbit hole after rabbit hole, until he meets someone else like him. Then another, then another, a whole community of people who've lost someone to a cryptid they call the Floating Man—just like the huge creature Jim saw take Wendy. Suddenly, Wendy's abductor has a name—the Floating Man. And Jim's obsession has direction—he's got to track down the Floating Man, uncover his crimes and free not just his daughter Wendy, but everyone who's been lost."
Peter Pan Is Now Public Domain
Image via DisneyLand of Never is just one of multiple recent horror-centric retellings of the classic Peter Pan story. In 2025, writer-director Scott Chambers' Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare introduced the beloved character to the Twisted Childhood Universe right alongside the cast of Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey. The film opened the door for entirely new territory for the Twisted Childhood Universe, although it was far from the franchise's most successful entry.
With Peter Pan being a public domain title, the beloved childhood classic can be twisted in any direction that creatives choose to take it. Horror retellings have been a popular flavor of choice for creatives looking to get their hands on time-old stories when reshaping them for the modern day.
Fortunately, fans will get to see Martin Portlock's Peter Pan return soon enough when Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble arrives in theaters. The upcoming horror epic will see the casts of every Twisted Childhood Universe series come together alongside newcomers such as Sleeping Beauty and the Cheshire Cat.
Land of Never #1 from Mad Cave Studios goes on sale on June 17.
