Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.
The Absolute Universe has introduced comic book readers to some of the most fascinating interpretations of classic DC heroes, whom fans are excited to see come together in an epic crossover. Apparently, the upcoming event has some more fun surprises in store.
Scott Snyder has confirmed that DC's Absolute Universe crossover event will also bring new characters into the mix.
The acclaimed comic book writer, who is not only the author of Absolute Batman but also the main overseer of the full timeline, recently appeared on the ComicPop Returns YouTube channel for an interview with host Sal Crivelli. During the chat, he dropped some exciting details about the long-awaited Absolute Universe crossover that are sure to be game-changers.
"There's a lot of expansion in the event that Jason is doing, which will also expand the universe a lot. That, obviously, is about these characters meeting, coming up against a big threat, the proxy to the Justice League essentially, which is the villains in our universe. So how do they go up against them? They have to find a different way than you'd expect, and that brings in a lot of characters that are kind of hiding in the shadows, good and bad. There's a lot of expansion into 2026 and 2027 even if the line itself stays modest in the number of books."
Snyder does not give up any of the names of these characters set to appear in the crossover event, nor does he clarify if they are familiar DC heroes and villains or entirely new creations. Either way, one thing that is for sure is that the Absolute Universe is about to expand.
The crossover will be the first to bring the Absolute iterations of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and others together, with Absolute Martian Manhunter, whose series is ending with Issue #12 in June, serving as the connective tissue. It is fitting that the extraterrestrial lawman is the one to unite these heroes as he played a pivotal part in the formation of the Justice League in DC's main timeline.
The aforementioned "Jason" in Snyder's above quote refers to Absolute Superman author Jason Aaron, who is penning the Absolute Universe crossover. However, Absolute Martian Manhunter's Deniz Camp is also contributing to the writing process to make sure the eponymous, symbiotic alien is handled correctly. DC has yet to officially announce who will illustrate the comic.
DC's Absolute Universe Crossovers So Far
Image via DC ComicsThe Absolute Universe crossover event that Scott Snyder discusses with ComicPop Returns will see all the main heroes from this Darkseid-invented corner of the DC Multiverse brought together for the first time. However, it is technically not the first-ever Absolute crossover.
The first title to see multiple Absolute Universe characters in one setting was actually Absolute Evil #1, a special one-shot that was released in Oct. 2025. Written by Al Ewing and featuring art by Giuseppe Camuncoli and Stefano Nesi, the story sees the likes of Absolute Joker, Ra’s al Ghul, Veronica Cale, and more discussing their plans against their respective enemies and even marks the debut of a few notable figures, such as Absolute Green Arrow.
Two months later, DC put out the first title to officially see two Absolute heroes come together, namely Absolute Wonder Woman #15. Writer Kelly Thompson brews up a story that sees Diana team up with Bruce Wayne to get to the bottom of a series of grisly murders with magical properties.
The following month, Snyder brought the duo back together in Absolute Batman #16, in which Bruce enlists Diana's help in finding a cure for his friend, Waylon Jones', reptilian affliction. To figure it out, they will need to journey through a place that Diana is quite familiar with: Hell.
DC's Absolute Universe crossover event is scheduled to launch in Nov. 2026.
