Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.

If not for its refreshingly unique storytelling, the most alluring element of Absolute Batman is its striking artwork. The best-selling comic book series just may have presented the coolest-looking version of the Dark Knight ever.

A special preview of Absolute Batman #21 shows a first look at a breathtakingly brutal Bruce Wayne preparing to take on the Absolute Robins.

The image in question makes up the title page of the next issue of the smash-hit DC comic, which is also Part Three in the current "Straw Man" arc. With artwork destined to be a classic, Nick Dragotta depicts his and writer Scott Snyder's version of Batman brandishing a menacing grin as he wields his iconic battleaxe in one hand and balls up his stranded cape into some spiked weapon that would fit right in at a medieval war museum.

The opening pages of the next issue of the smash-hit DC comic pick up where the record-breaking Absolute Batman #20 left off, with Bats finally coming face to face with the Absolute Robins. The team is suited up in their high-tech mech suits, ready to bring in the infamous vigilante by any means necessary.

While Duke Thomas remains silent, Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, and Stephanie Brown each take turns ordering their target to stand down, with Tim issuing a final warning with the stinger, "These are bad odds." Despite Absolute Alfred Pennyworth's pleas to flee the scene, Batman stands his ground with the brutal rebuttal, "These are bad odds. For you."

The line calls to mind a memorable The Dark Knight Rises quote by Tom Hardy's Bane, who tells Aidan Gillen's CIA operative that removing the terrorist's mask would be "extremely painful" for him. Yet, the accompanying artwork is almost unlike any of DC Comics' previous depictions of Batman, who looks especially feral and ready to take no prisoners, despite the clear odds against him.

Realistically, the members of the Robin Program do have the upper hand here, especially due to their larger-than-life equipment, courtesy of funding by their adoptive father, Jack "Absolute Joker" Grimm V. Not to mention, they are trained and led by Slade "Absolute Deathstroke" Wilson. Readers will have to pick up Absolute Batman #21 to see how the title hero holds his own against the team.

Absolute Batman #21 Also Pits Bruce Against Old Friends

Batman's quarrel with the Absolute Robins has been one of the most anticipated DC Comics events in recent memory. However, that is not all Bruce Wayne is forced to contend with, according to the official synopsis for Absolute Batman #21.

SCARECROW'S REIGN OF TERROR CONTINUES! Friends become enemies. Enemies become friends. Final forms are revealed, and Scarecrow's reign of terror threatens to upend everything.

Paired the logline with the official cover art for the series' next chapter, it looks like Absolute Two-Face and Absolute Penguin are also coming after the Caped Crusader. This is bound to be one of Bruce's most personal challenges yet, seeing how, in the Absolute Universe, Harvey Dent and Oswald Cobblepot are childhood friends of his who were brutally transformed into their villainous alter egos by Absolute Bane in retaliation against Batman.

Of course, Dr. Jonathan Crane, otherwise known as Absolute Scarecrow, is especially proving to be a thorn in the superhero's side lately. Bruce discovers in Absolute Batman #20 that the unsettling, fear-toxin-emitting criminal had a hand in an elaborate scheme to manipulate him into assuming his vigilante destiny since he was a child.

DC also recently announced a major reveal about the Sept. 2026 release of Absolute Batman #24, which will see Barbara Gordon become Absolute Batgirl officially. With Bruce spiraling from his issues, the GCPD cop decides to take matters into her hands to avenge her slain father, former Gotham City mayor, Jim Gordon.

Absolute Batman #21 hits the shelves on Wednesday, June 17.
