Dark Horse Confirms Conclusion of Blood-Soaked Viking Saga

2026 is shaping up to be a major year for not only Dark Horse Comics overall, but specifically the work of the company's breakout star writer, Zack Kaplan. We have previously exclusively announced his upcoming series, The Smart Division, which is about the police having to deal with an artifical intelligence that boasts that it can thwart law enforcement at every turn.

Kaplan recently had a major success with the release of the science fiction series, Only the Savage Are Left, which has been one of the most acclaimed new series of the year. CBR's own Jason Wiese picked it out as one of the horror comics that he was most looking forward to this year.

And now, in a CBR exclusive announcement and cover reveal, Kaplan is revealing the conclusion of his epic KIll All Immortals series at Dark Horse this Fall, working with artist Francesco Mortarino, colorist Thiago Rocha, and letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou.

What is the Official Description for Kill All Immortals III?

Dark Horse provided the following official description of the upcoming series:

The Asvalds were once a billionaire Viking family with the secret to immortality, until the family’s only daughter, Frey Asvald, led a rebellion against their barbaric father. Now, with their family splintered and wounded, they find a daunting world of rival immortals seeking their demise at every turn. As Frey takes on her most deadly adversaries yet, she must finally decide what is most important, her freedom from war or her Viking vengeance.

The world of immortal Vikings was drenched in violence and death against just one rival, but how will the Asvalds prevail against an immortal world ready to destroy them.

Kill All Immortals III #1 is due out on October 7th.

What Do Kaplan and Mortarino Have to Say About the Project?

Artist Francesco Mortarino noted his excitement about the comic, "Having the chance to get my hands on this fantastic series is an incredible opportunity for me! The special atmosphere created to tell this story is an incredible challenge; it allows me to push my limits and learn a new way of telling stories through images. I’ve loved learning to draw every member of the Asvald family, and I can’t wait to draw their past versions! Kaplan summed things up nicely, by adding, “I cannot wait to bring you the finale of Kill All Immortals. The response since we first launched this series has been nothing but incredible, and it’s been a joy to share this exciting family drama of barbaric Vikings in our modern world. And if you thought we’ve raised the stakes in Season II, you ain’t seen nothing yet. We are so lucky to be joined by Francesco Mortarino who delivers a poetic and action-packed conclusion to Frey’s story. The first two trades will be out and this conclusion is not to be missed. We will not be holding back on this one and it will be worthy of the series we’ve given you so far!”

Kill All Immortals III #1 is due out on October 7th.
