Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.
In addition to its classic, world-famous comic book characters, there are a handful of other fan favorites who never get enough time in the spotlight. However, there is reason to believe that one such overlooked DC Comics hero named Vixen might be getting her time to shine.
Scott Snyder potentially dropped a big hint at a new Vixen-led DC comic book series. The acclaimed author and overseer of the mega-popular Absolute Universe appeared at this year's HeroesCon in Charlotte, North Carolina. As part of the event's DC Comics panel, he discussed the future of the Next Level line and other upcoming titles he and others at the publishing giant are excited to present.
However, one moment that caught the eye of comic book industry blogger Chris Anton saw Snyder supposedly wink when mentioning the currently undisclosed series. The alleged wink appears to have been directed toward a member of the crowd by the name of Stephanie Williams, an established comic book writer.
This moment led the folks at Bleeding Cool to suspect that Snyder was subtly implying that a new Vixen series is part of DC's Next Level initiative. Williams has been promoting herself on social media as a great fit to write for the fan-favorite character for years.
In late 2024, she revealed in a tweet that she had a pitch for a cosmic horror story with Vixen in the lead that was "burning a hole in [her] email drafts." The following year, she mentioned that this idea was "no longer burning," before posting on Instagram at the beginning of 2026 a character design page for Vixen with the caption, "I’m manifesting like I have never manifested before."
All of these signs point to Williams' dream of writing for Vixen finally coming true. Unless Snyder's wink in the author's direction was involuntary, he very well may have confirmed that this series is becoming a reality soon.
Williams has already earned an impressive resume through her work in the comic book industry, especially when it comes to writing for some of of DC's most powerful female characters. For instance, she is best known for her acclaimed series led by Nubia, a fellow Amazonian ally of Wonder Woman who is also known as DC Comics' first-ever Black female superhero.
Who Is Vixen in DC Comics?
Image via DCSpeaking of Black female comic book characters, one cannot discuss the topic without mentioning one of the most criminally underrated DC heroes, Vixen. Created by writer Gerry Conway and artist Bob Oksner, the character, born Mari Jiwe, made her debut in Action Comics #521 in 1981.
The Tantu Totem, a mystical heirloom passed in her family for generations, has imbued the Zambesi, Africa, native with the ability to mimic the abilities of whatever animal she chooses. In fact, she retains these powers without even wearing the totem, but it does strengthen them.
Vixen, who also moonlights as a business executive and fashion model, is also well-versed in hand-to-hand combat, having trained with the Justice League, with whom she has been frequently affiliated. She has also fought alongside the Birds of Prey and the Suicide Squad and teamed up with characters like Batwing and Bronze Tiger, both of whom she has also been romantically connected to.
However, Mari was depicted as being in a relationship with John "Green Lantern" Stewart in the character's screen debut from a 2004 episode of Justice League Unlimited, in which she was voiced by Firefly's Gina Torres. Vixen has also inspired multiple characters in The CW's Arrowverse, namely Megalyn Echikunwoke's Mari McCabe on Arrow (who also received her own animated web series spin-off) and Amaya Jiwe, played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers on Legends of Tomorrow.
There is no confirmation regarding a new Vixen series from DC Comics at the moment.
