Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.

One of the most anticipated movies of 2026 is Supergirl, which is flying into theaters this month. Fans poised to crave even more adventures from The Girl of Steel will immediately be in luck... depending on where they choose to experience the movie in theaters.

Audiences who attend Supergirl at an AMC IMAX theater on June 25 or 26 will receive a free copy of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow #1.

What makes this edition of the graphic novel's first issue special is the new variant cover art directly inspired by the film. It is designed by Eisner Award-nominated artist Bilquis Evely, who is the original illustrator for the comic penned by Tom King.

This is only the latest time that AMC Theaters has offered a special edition of a notable DC comic book to audiences who saw a new superhero movie at one of the leading movie theater chain's participating locations and on certain dates. For instance, in 2022, fans who saw Matt Reeves' The Batman during its opening weekend received a copy of the first chapter of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's acclaimed mid-1990s miniseries, Batman: The Long Halloween, featuring new cover art based on the Robert Pattinson-led hit.

Previously, in 2019, first weekend attendees of director David F. Sandberg's Shazam! were treated to a special edition of the first issue of writer Geoff Johns and artist Gary Frank's New 52 run for the superhero otherwise known as young Billy Batson. Four years later, fans who showed up for the sequel, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, during its first couple of days of release, received a copy of Johns' story, "Shazam and the Seven Magic Lands," featuring star Zachary Levi on the cover.

Supergirl Is Based On Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

The comics that AMC Theaters has rewarded early superhero movie audiences with are noted for serving as loose inspirations for the films in question. However, what makes Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow a special case is that Supergirl is a near-direct adaptation of the comic.

Tom King and Bilquis Evely's eight-issue miniseries, which debuted in June 2021, follows Kara Zor-El and her superpowered dog, Krypto, on a search for the perfect birthday weekend on a planet next to a red sun. However, while there, she meets a young woman named Ruthye Marye Knoll, who enlists her help to exact revenge on the dastardly Krem of the Yellow Hills, who murdered her father.

That synopsis also effectively describes Supergirl's plot, which is already known for taking a few light but notable creative liberties. For instance, Superman never appears in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, but it was confirmed that David Corenswet makes a cameo as Kara's cousin, Kal-El (or Clark Kent to Earthlings), seemingly as a return of favor for Kara's cameo in 2025's Superman.

Even more exciting to fans is the fact that Supergirl will mark the cinematic debut of Lobo. Former Aquaman actor Jason Momoa makes his transition from the DC Extended Universe to James Gunn's DC Universe to portray the intergalactic bounty hunter, who also never appears, nor is he even mentioned, in the film's source material.

Australian actor Milly Alcock of House of the Dragon fame leads Supergirl in the title role, alongside Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, David Krumholtz as Kara's father, Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as her mother, Alura In-Ze. The film is directed by Craig Gillespie — the acclaimed filmmaker behind award-winning dramas like I, Tonya, as well as blockbusters like Cruella — and is penned by Ana Nogueira.

Supergirl opens in theaters on June 25, and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is available at comic book stores and most digital platforms.
