Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.
Has a comic book character ever tallied up more dramatic costume changes than Harley Quinn? Even so, is there any reason to stop introducing new alterations to the one-time Batman rogue's wardrobe?
That being said, DC Comics just may have revealed the Harley Quinn look to end all Harley Quinn looks recently. Quite frankly, the Clown Princess of Crime has never looked quite so badass before the release of this image.
Harley Quinn #66 Variant Cover Makes The Anti-Hero Battle Ready
A variant cover for the upcoming release of Harley Quinn #66 was revealed, presenting a visual depiction of the character that shows her appearing more intimidating than ever. It is a variation of her current main timeline outfit, consisting of her traditional red and black color scheme with an added purple sheer top and matching leggings, but with a side of Mad Max.
The spiked shoulder pads and matching knee pads, decked out gauntlets, and equipment arsenal including a shotgun, gasoline can, and souped-up vehicle seen behind her confirm that this Harley is totally ready for action. If not for Scott Snyder's idea to make her the leader of the Red Hood Gang in the Absolute Universe, this would have been a perfect look for Absolute Harley Quinn.
Sans the harlequin-esque red and black pattern, the outfit is a bit of a far cry from Harley's debut appearance as The Joker's partner in crime and in romance on Batman: The Animated Series, on which she was voiced by the late Arleen Sorkin. However, it is certainly comparable to Margot Robbie's costuming in the DC Extended Universe movies, including Suicide Squad, and Kaley Cuoco's animated iteration, in terms of its revealing nature.
The image comes courtesy of artist Derrick Chew, who has designed many variant comic book covers boasting striking reimaginings of classic characters. His alternate design for Harley Quinn #66 is not even his first for the DC character's self-titled series, but his resume also includes illustrations for Dynamite's Vampirella #4, the Absolute Batman: Ark M #1 special (which has been reprinted twice), and plenty more.
Harley Quinn #66 Is Part Of DC's Bad Seeds Event
Image via DC ComicsThe main cover art for Harley Quinn #66, designed by Bailie Rosenlund, features a less dystopian Harley holding on for dear life on what appears to be a growing beanstalk. This serves as a major reveal that the issue will coincide with DC's upcoming Bad Seeds event, in addition to its official solicitation, written from Harley's perspective.
Ahh, finally time for a nice relaxing—what the heck?! I just got my life back to normal, and now the whole city is gettin' torn apart by prehistoric plants, poisonous pollen, and ahhh ... dangit , I ran outta P words for alliteration, so uhhh ... terrible treeoids ? I got a bad feeling my one true love, Poison Ivy, is behind alla this. I guess I gotta get my butt down to City Hall stat!
Bad Seeds, which kicks off in Aug. 2026 with Batman: Bad Seeds – Sunset #1, takes place in DC's current main timeline and sees Gotham City becoming overrun with bizarre, primitive vegetation. Harley Quinn #66 sees the reformed Clown Princess of Crime taking the responsibility of stopping the catastrophe, seeing as how it is caused by her former girlfriend and the city's current mayor, Pamela "Poison Ivy" Isley.
The comic is written by Elliott Kalan, who is also a comedian who has written for the likes of The Daily Show and the Netflix era of Mystery Science Theater 3000 before getting into comics. Harley Quinn #66 is illustrated by Carlos Olivares of Boom! Studios' Buffy the Vampire Slayer 25th Anniversary Special #1 fame, and the colorist is Marissa Louise, known for her work on Boom!'s Escape from New York comic book series.
Harley Quinn #66 hits the shelves on Sept. 23, 2026.
