Skybound Entertainment's Energon Universe is barely a week away from the explosive debut of its next resident team of animated '80s heroes: M.A.S.K.
On June 10, the heroes of M.A.S.K. will make their official Energon Universe debut with the release of the very first issue of their own self-titled ongoing comic book series. Written by Dan Watters with art by Simon Parr, colors by Pierluigi Casolino, and letters by Rus Wooton, M.A.S.K. #1 will burst open the doors to entirely new corners of the Energon Universe, and things will never be the same because of it.

The official solicit synopsis for M.A.S.K. #1 from Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics reads, "The world is becoming a terrifying place. Matt Trakker needs your help saving it. Enter M.A.S.K. — a network of specialists recruited to respond to the next global emergency."
"At a moment’s notice, Trakker and his agents can deploy bleeding-edge technology that converts their vehicles — and their drivers — into the ultimate weapon," the solicit text continues. "But Miles Mayhem and V.E.N.O.M. are one step ahead in a secret arms race, scouring the globe for deadly weapons from this planet and beyond, ready to sell out the entire human race. Only M.A.S.K. can stop them... but will Trakker's own secrets jeopardize their entire mission?"
How M.A.S.K Fits Into The Energon Universe, Explained
Image via Skybound EntertainmentBased on the Kenner Products action figure line of the same name, the original M.A.S.K. animated series from Ashi Productions made its television debut all the way back in 1985. The series revolved around the ongoing battle between the heroes of the eponymous Mobile Armored Strike Kommand and their dreaded foes in V.E.N.O.M., or the Vicious Evil Network Of Mayhem. Despite only running for two seasons, M.A.S.K. continues to hold a special place in the hearts of fans, as well as its own unique corner in the wider realm of pop culture.
Readers got their first proper glimpse of M.A.S.K. in Skybound's shared Energon Universe, which already consists of the Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Void Rivals franchises, back in May with the release of the Energon Universe 2026 Special one-shot. Skybound Entertainment executive editor Ben Abernathy said of the special ahead of its release, "The release of the Energon Universe Special is an exciting annual event in the [Energon Universe]. We bring the best talent together to tell exciting short stories that help seed the future of the Energon Universe…and the stories get more exciting each year!"
The introduction of M.A.S.K. to the Energon Universe will be just the latest in a long line of major shake-ups that have recently hit Skybound's premier comic book landscape. In April, the Decepticons' very own Megatron underwent a truly gut-wrenching transformation courtesy of the ominous Matrix of Oppression nestled within his living steel frame. Now, the Autobots' greatest enemies are somehow both fractured and deadlier than ever, while their longtime leader is on the verge of becoming something unlike any they have ever seen.
M.A.S.K. #1 from Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics goes on sale on June 10.
