Godzilla is officially heading down the yellow brick road toward Oz, and there may not be any stopping him once he arrives.
IDW Publishing has officially unveiled another upcoming entry in one of the most beloved series of the decade — Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: The Kaiju of Oz #1. Written by Mike Costa with art by Ryan Browne, The Kaiju of Oz #1 will offer readers another towering tale of terror as Godzilla crashes into another classic literary landscape.

Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: The Kaiju of Oz #1 is another in an ever-expanding number of follow-ups to creator Tom Scioli's original three-issue limited series, which began in 2024 and introduced readers to a whole new kind of kaiju comic. Scioli previously explained the core concept at the heart of Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre as, "Godzilla has been with us for centuries, maybe millennia, hiding in the fringes of history and literature."
Editor Jake Williams also previously discussed the original Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre limited series, recalling, "When I first read the script, I had a smile on my face so big and dumb it almost hurt." Williams went on to call the series "a giant force for parody and laughs," noting how it managed to recover the more comedic side of the Godzilla franchise that has seemingly been sidelined in recent years.
Since the release of the original series, two more entries in the series have been released, beginning with Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Romeo & Juliet and Godzilla #1 in April. Writer Adam Tierney said of the wider concept at the time, "Tom Scioli has invented such a unique take on Godzilla. It's an honor to play in that sandbox and also reimagine one of Shakespeare's greatest plays... I can't wait for everyone to see all the craziness we've come up with."
Godzilla Has Invaded Other Classic Tales
Image via IDW PublishingOn June 10, Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Godzilla's The Odyssey #1 made its way into stores, with writer Frank Tieri and artist Ilias Kyriazis pitting Odysseus against a skyscraper-sized threat on his already long and harrowing journey home. Next up is Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Roar of the Worlds #1, which will be written and illustrated by Kyle Baker, and is slated to arrive in stores on August 12.
The official solicit synopsis for Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: Roar of the Worlds #1 from IDW Publishing reads, "In this oversize one-shot, comic book legend Kyle Baker joins the fun to help Godzilla defend the planet against invaders from Mars! The War of the Worlds regaled readers with the story of what happened in England when faraway invaders arrived. This comic asks a much more important question... what was going on in Japan? The answer: Martians were getting smashed left and right by the King of the Monsters!"
Godzilla's Monsterpiece Theatre Presents: The Kaiju of Oz #1 from IDW Publishing goes on sale on Oct. 7.
