Henry Cavill Moves On From 007 Talk With a New Spy Role

Henry Cavill built his career with Man of Steel, and fans long pushed for him to take over as James Bond. That talk has slowed in recent years as timing and studio plans moved on. Still, Cavill is not leaving the spy genre behind, and a new project could fill that gap in a different way.

According to Deadline, Cavill has signed on for an untitled spy action comedy directed by McG. The film is set for Netflix and will also star Kevin Hart. The story follows two rival spies who meet in a Lamaze class. Their wives become close friends, and the men’s secret lives begin to clash in ways that bring both danger and comedy. The script is based on a short story by Sean Lewis.

Cavill has long been seen as a natural fit for Bond. His role in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. showed his ability to play a sharp and stylish agent. He also took on a more aggressive spy role in Mission: Impossible – Fallout, where he leaned into physical action over subtle tactics. These roles helped build his reputation as a leading man in action films.

Even without Bond, Cavill’s schedule remains packed. He led multiple seasons of The Witcher and continues to take on major franchise work. He will return as Sherlock Holmes in Enola Holmes 3 this summer. He is also attached to new versions of Highlander and Voltron, both of which carry strong brand recognition.

The Bond role itself remains in flux after Daniel Craig’s final outing in No Time to Die in 2021. Industry reports suggest MGM is looking for a younger actor who can stay in the role for many years. Cavill, now in his early 40s, may fall outside that plan. Craig held the role for 15 years, and the studio appears focused on long-term casting to protect the franchise’s future.

This shift reflects a broader trend in Hollywood. Studios are betting on younger stars to lock in long-running franchises, which can limit opportunities for established actors. Cavill’s new Netflix film shows he is adapting, taking on projects that blend action with wider appeal as streaming platforms continue to shape the market.
