Marvel Officially Reveals Thor's New Redesign Before Avengers: Doomsday

What if one of the best anthologies in all of Marvel Comics got even better? That is precisely what might be happening in 2026, when the What If ... ? universe gets more unimaginable than it's ever been in its storied past, and that's saying a mouthful when considering the storylines it has conjured in the past — in both comic book form and in Disney+'s streaming series.

And, now, Marvel turns that energy and focus toward Thor, just months ahead of his re-emergence in Marvel Studios' Avengers: Doomsday, presumably as the all-powerful Rune Thor in the film.

As Chris Hemsworth prepares to reprise his role as the God of Thunder against Robert Downey Jr.'s God Emperor Doom, he will likely enjoy the epic redesign spawned by What If ... Thor? this summer as Marvel Comics celebrates 50 years of What If ... ? with a list of one-shots delivered right into the veins of their readers.

For example, hey, what if Thor was possessed by the Venom symbiote? Ah, the all-powerful will get more powerful for 2026 and, objectively speaking, the redesign looks entirely badass.

Marvel Bonds Thor With Venom Ahead of Avengers: Doomsday

Per the press release: "WHAT IF…THOR GOT SPIDER-MAN'S SYMBIOTE SUIT? Amid the chaos, there comes a costume — but not to the hero you know! Legend has it that bonding with the symbiote suit made Thor mightier still. But what shadows lurking in the Ten Realms would take interest in such a powerful pairing?"

As Vision once noted so eloquently in Captain America: Civil War, strength invites challenge and challenge incites conflict. Time will tell if what type of catastrophe that conflict breeds when What If ... Thor? hits shelves in mid-June, but you can bet Thor will have his fair share of challengers and at least one that makes him break a sweat.

What If ... ? Is Taking Over the Summer for Marvel Comics

Uatu, The Watcher, has had his fun lately by way of confirmed speculation that he slid into the live-action world via Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, and Marvel Comics is making sure the latest What If ... ? comic series reminds fans over the next several months of just how iconic it truly is.

It continued: "Crafted by some of today’s biggest talents, the new one-shots shake the foundations of every corner of the Marvel mythos beginning with startling stories starring the X-Men and Thor and continuing with epic reimaginings of pivotal storylines like Secret Wars and Kraven’s Last Hunt!"

Avengers: Doomsday will premiere in theaters worldwide on December 18, 2026.
