Marvel Studios is pushing ahead with its long-awaited reboot of X-Men, but director Jake Schreier is warning fans not to trust the flood of casting rumors circulating online. Interest in the project has surged in recent months as speculation spreads across social media, though Schreier says much of that chatter is not based in reality.
In a recent interview with Collider, Schreier confirmed that early discussions are underway but stopped short of confirming any official casting decisions. He made it clear that most of the reports claiming inside knowledge are not coming from the production team.
“We’re talking about things, we’re thinking about things,” Schreier said. “I can tell you most of the stuff that gets posted online, I don’t know where it comes from, because it doesn’t come from our room, and it isn’t what we’re discussing. But there is a process.”
Schreier, who earned recognition for his work on Beef, is now tasked with helping Marvel relaunch one of its most valuable franchises. That responsibility comes at a time when the studio is facing growing pressure to deliver stronger results after a mixed run of recent releases. The X-Men brand remains a key asset, and expectations are high as Marvel looks to reset its direction.

Despite the secrecy around the reboot, several legacy actors are already confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Kelsey Grammer, and Alan Cumming. Channing Tatum, who recently appeared as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, is also part of the broader Marvel lineup, fueling speculation about his future involvement.
For now, Marvel Studios has not announced a release date for X-Men, and Schreier’s comments suggest fans should ignore online rumors until official updates arrive. In a media landscape driven by leaks and speculation, Marvel appears to be keeping this project tightly controlled as it prepares for a major reset.
