Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are pushing even darker with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the next chapter in the MCU’s Spider-Man series, set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026. The film arrives five years after Spider-Man: No Way Home, which ended with Peter Parker erased from public memory after Doctor Strange cast a spell that wiped his identity from the world.
The new story picks up with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker operating in isolation across New York City. Without friends or support, he continues his role as Spider-Man while facing a growing list of threats. Early footage confirms the return of Michael Mando as Scorpion, along with hints of a larger supernatural force that appears to be targeting the population on a mass scale.
Marketing for Spider-Man: Brand New Day began in March with a trailer that drew more than 718 million views in its first 24 hours, setting a new record for global engagement. That level of interest signals strong audience demand for the character, even as the broader Marvel brand has faced uneven box office results in recent years.
SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY – New Trailer
Sony released a second full trailer this week, timed with the launch of ticket sales for what will be the MCU’s 38th film. The footage expands on Peter Parker’s condition, showing a physical and psychological shift that includes organic webbing and moments where his eyes turn completely black. Peter openly states he feels like he is losing control, which drives him to seek help from Bruce Banner, played by Mark Ruffalo.
The trailer also highlights a more aggressive version of the Hulk, a portrayal not seen since Avengers: Infinity War in 2018. This shift suggests Marvel may be moving back toward heavier, more action-driven character arcs after years of lighter tonal experiments.
New scenes show Scorpion engaging Spider-Man in direct combat, along with the presence of The Hand, a criminal organization with deep ties to Marvel’s darker storylines. The footage points to a central mystery involving a force that appears to be invading people’s minds. Peter seems unaffected, raising questions about why he is immune and what that means for the larger threat.
One notable absence from the trailer is Sadie Sink, whose role remains undisclosed. Online speculation continues to suggest she could play a major mutant character, though neither Marvel nor Sony has confirmed those reports.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is positioned as a major test for Marvel’s next phase. Strong early engagement numbers suggest the studio may still have the ability to draw massive audiences, but the film’s performance could also shape how aggressively Marvel moves forward with its interconnected storytelling model.
