A massively underrated fantasy series is finally getting its first collected edition, and Dungeons & Dimwits fans couldn't be more excited.

Fan-favorite indie publisher Dren Productions has officially unveiled the very first collected edition of Dungeons & Dimwits. Slated for release on September 15, Dungeons & Dimwits Vol. 1: First Fails collects the first five issues of writer James Mascia and artist Kodaris' hit indie fantasy series, bringing readers all the way up to one of the most exhilarating cliffhangers the series has to offer.

Dungeons & Dimwits Vol. 1: First Fails

The official solicit synopsis for Dungeons & Dimwits Vol. 1: First Fails from Dren Productions reads, "Imagine all the crazy stuff that happens when playing your favorite tabletop role-playing games. Now imagine getting sucked into that game and having to live through the insanity that you and your friends created."

The solicit text continues, "That's what happens to our group of adventurers as they deal with an enemy that is far too powerful for them. They must traverse the fantasy world of their creation, dealing with all manor of dangers and craziness, in order to get back to their own lives. This series is a hysterical look at TTRPGs and is for those who play, and those who have never played."

What Is Dungeons & Dimwits About?

Dungeons & Dimwits follows a group of middle-school friends who spend their days playing their favorite tabletop RPG, one set in a world designed by their very own DM, Jared. Somehow, an enigmatic sorceress who Jared created for his friends to encounter in the game is capable of bending reality itself, ultimately drawing Jared and the others into his fantastical setting to embark upon the very quests he designed just for them.

Although Jared knows the map, characters, and rules of this world better than anyone else, he still has no clue just how real the danger might be, nor how any of this is even possible in the first place. Fortunately, he is acutely aware of the all-powerful relic that can send him and his friends back home, assuming they can survive all the monsters, villains, and treacherous terrain that lie between them and their prize.

Dungeons & Dimwits is just another in a long line of hit indie comics published by Dren Productions in recent years, not to mention just another in an increasingly long list of titles penned by James Mascia. Among Mascia's other Dren Productions titles are horror series Flesh-Eating Cheerleaders from Outer Space and The Poe Murders, the latter of which revolves around the hunt for a brazen serial killer who translates the iconic stories of Edgar Allan Poe into grisly modern-day demises.

Dungeons & Dimwits Vol. 1: First Fails from Dren Productions is available for pre-order now and is currently slated to arrive in stores on Sept. 15.

The cover for the D&D 2024 Player's Handbook depicts characters of various classes and races with weapons out and magic at the ready while dragons of different sizes surround them.
