
Peter has been fired by Dexter Bennett, who is telling all the other news outlets not to hire him. The “spider-tracer killer” is still on the loose, and his latest target was a local anti-superhero politician who just wrote an article against Spider-Man that was set for publication by Bennet.

And some guy named Basher challenges Spidey to a fight, accepting bets at the Bar With No Name. It turns out to be a fake fight, though, with a fake Spider-Man showing up–all an attempt to win the book against Basher. The real Spider-Man shows up and there’s a good old-fashioned bar fight.
Then Spider-Man tracks down the crooked bookie, who is already in deep with the Enforcers, and we get a Coney Island roller coaster fight.

With so much going on in the various storylines of “Brand New Day,” this feels like wasted space. But sometimes a lighter-hearted tale is a good pallet cleanser, and this is a perfectly serviceable read that appropriately checks in on all the various storylines.
