We’re officially one issue away from the finale, and Incursion #4 makes it very clear: the stage is set, the threats are real, and Miles Morales has never had more weight on his shoulders.

After the fast, emotionally charged first three issues, this chapter gives us something a little more focused—but just as explosive. With Magik front and center, Mei coming into her own, and Anansi offering some cosmic guidance, this issue delivers character growth, visual spectacle, and the kind of myth-building that reminds us why Miles isn’t just a Spider-Man—he’s the Spider-Man for this moment in the Ultimate Universe.

PROS:

Mei + Miles = Webbed Warriors in Training

One of the highlights here is the growing partnership between Miles and Mei. Their dynamic has really leveled up since we first saw them together, and this issue puts them in the thick of it—facing off against the fearsome Magik. What stands out isn’t just their fighting ability, but their teamwork. There’s a growing sense of trust, rhythm, and mutual respect forming between them. And for readers like me who love seeing Spider-Man as a mentor, this hits the sweet spot.

Watching them go head-to-head with someone as powerful and terrifying as Magik proves that they’re not just surviving this journey—they’re becoming a real team.

Magik: A Scene-Stealing Villain

Let’s talk about Magik. Because wow. She absolutely owns this issue. From her intimidating design to her brutal, no-holds-barred attacks, she’s written with real menace and presence. She’s not just here to monologue or posture—she fights, and she means business. Her fight sequences, violent strikes, and twisted sense of purpose make her one of the most memorable villains of the series so far.

And the art? Absolutely stunning during this battle. The spell effects, sword clashes, and motion work together to create something truly electric. This is the kind of fight that makes you want to reread it in slow motion, panel by panel.

Words of Wisdom from a God

But the issue isn’t all action. We get a surprise appearance from Anansi, the spider god who chose Miles as his champion—and it might just be my favorite scene in the issue.

Anansi has this calm, cosmic energy that perfectly balances Miles’ growing anxiety. Miles is clearly feeling the weight of this quest—he misses his family, his girlfriend, his normal life—and Anansi doesn’t dismiss that pain. Instead, he gives him a simple but powerful message: keep going.

It’s the kind of moment that sticks with you—not just as character development, but as a reminder of why Miles matters. He was chosen not because he was the strongest, but because he keeps showing up, even when he’s afraid. Anansi believes in him—and so do we.

The Billie Question Looms

Another thread this issue continues to build is the mystery and anticipation around Billie, Miles’ sister. While she’s still mostly off-page this time, you can feel her importance. The way everyone talks about her, the fact that she’s at the heart of this conflict, and the hints dropped throughout the series—it’s all leading to something big.

And honestly? I’m all in for it. Miles is doing all of this not just to stop an incursion—but to save his sister. That personal core gives this story so much weight. I can’t wait to see how she factors into the final showdown.

CONS:

Where’s Omega Red?

Now, if there’s one area where the issue slightly stumbles, it’s in the use (or non-use) of Omega Red and Colossus. After being teased in the previews and solicitations, I expected a more balanced three-way conflict, or at least some heavy-hitting mutant brawls. But the spotlight remains firmly on Magik, with the others taking a backseat—almost to the point of being blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameos.

Don’t get me wrong—Magik deserves the spotlight, and she makes the most of it. But when you tease Omega Red, fans like me are expecting him to show up and wreck something. Hopefully, the finale gives him more room to stretch.

Rating: B – A powerful penultimate issue with heart, heat, and one heck of a swordfight.

Final Thoughts

Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #4 is a tight, impactful issue that trades some of the multiversal madness for focused character work and thrilling action. Miles and Mei shine as a growing team, Magik cements herself as a top-tier threat, and Anansi brings in the mythic energy that elevates the whole series.

There’s a little disappointment in how little we saw of Omega Red and Colossus—but what we do get is more than enough to keep the momentum strong. With the finale just around the corner, the hype couldn’t be higher. Big choices are coming. Big reveals are coming. And if Miles is going to rise to the occasion, he’ll need everything he’s got.
