As part of X-Men: Age of Revelation, the regular X-Men comics have been put on pause to tell a story of mutant utopia set ten years in the future. However, this utopia, ruled by Apocalypse’s heir Revelation, is too good to be true. The methods for achieving it result in the eradication of humankind in the process.
In January 2026, the X-Men comics return to the present with the knowledge of this dark future. Thus launches the Shadows of Tomorrow era, featuring stories that see Marvel’s mutants united in preventing the Age of Revelation from happening.

Do you need to read all of these comics?
While I’m sure Marvel would love you to buy and read all of these comics, there’s no obligation to do so. When a publisher announces a new era like this, they tend to create a raft of options to cater to a wider range of readers. This way, they can try to appeal to as many readers as possible – even if they’re only interested in one or two comics.
As a result, you’re best to just read the ones that appeal to you. This could be based on premise, character(s), or creators involved. It’s totally up to you which comics and how many you read.
Will there be more comics?
Yes. At New York Comic-Con 2025, writer Eve L. Ewing teased a new comic that will launch in 2026. It’s unclear what that will be right now. Beyond that, it’s safe to assume that future comics will be announced during this era of X-Men comics.
Additionally, if Shadows of Tomorrow is anything like previous eras of X-Men comics, there will likely be new comics added along the way. I’m confident that when a miniseries ends, it will be replaced with something else.
