Marvel Studios' has officially announced the return of one of the most beloved villains in the history of the MCU, as well as his original voice actor. As of now, fans can officially begin looking forward to the return of James Spader in the role of Ultron when Vision Quest arrives on Disney+ in 2026.

Spader first portrayed the voice of Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron back in 2015. Written and directed by Joss Whedon, Avengers: Age of Ultron marked the debut of one of Marvel Comics' most infamous villains, as well as one of its mightiest heroes in the form of Paul Bettany's Vision. Avengers: Age of Ultron was a massive hit upon its release, bringing in over $1.405 billion at the box office against a budget of around $365 million. The film also drew largely rave reviews from both critics and audiences, garnering a 75% "Certified Fresh" rating via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, as averaged across more than 370 verified critical reviews.

While Spader would lend his voice to Ultron one more time in the virtual reality Avengers: Damage Control experience, he did not return to voice the character for any of Ultron's subsequent MCU appearances. In the What If...? animated series, the Infinity Ultron version of the character was voiced by Ross Marquand, despite having previously considered having Bettany himself step in as the next generation of the robotic villain.

What Can Fans Expect from Vision Quest When It Arrives?

Vision Quest will pick up in the wake of the events of WandaVision, which saw a whole new iteration of the Vision take form. While the return of Ultron amidst such a storyline is no surprise, he isn't the only classic MCU villain set to make a comeback in the series, nor is he the most surprising. In September, it was confirmed that Faran Tahir will be returning to reprise his role of Raza from 2008's Iron Man. Raza was a member of the Ten Rings, specifically the leader of the sect responsible for Tony Stark's initial kidnapping and his development of the Iron Man armor. Shortly after Stark's escape, Raza was killed in cold blood by Jeff Bridges' Obadiah Stane, making his upcoming return in Vision Quest all the more surprising.

Vision Quest is currently expected to arrive on Disney+ in 2026.
